About the Farm
Background
CoGro Co-Op emerged from years of involvement in the food justice and Green movements. Mike and Bonnie, who met at an Earth Day event in Chicago, aim to honor the wishes of the farm's original owner by maintaining it as a family farm. The farm is located on the Harrison Janecek Farm and has a rich history of community and educational initiatives.
Practices
The farm employs biodynamic and sustainable farming methods, focusing on community-based and spiritual practices. They offer workshops in wildcrafting, gardening, farm organizing, and more. The farm plans to cultivate market gardens, fruit and nut trees, and introduce bees, grapes, mushrooms, and animals. Their practices are informed by cooperative experience and certifications in social justice organizing, beekeeping, gardening, and permaculture.
The Rest
CoGro Co-Op provides rental spaces for various spiritual and religious events, accommodating practices that require natural or outdoor environments. They also offer educational tours and workshops for schools and community groups, and donate a portion of their profits to local charities. The farm's market offers a variety of fresh produce, honey, free-range chicken eggs, and artisanal products.
