About the Farm

Background

Chilly Hollow Farm was established in 2011 by childhood friends Chris Dalton, Matt Lander, and Justin Carrasco on three acres in Clarke County, Virginia. Carrasco, inspired by summers spent in the area, joined forces with Dalton, who had farmed across the country, and Lander, to create a farm focused on self-reliance and community nourishment. Over the years, they have expanded their operations and improved their farming techniques significantly.

Practices

The farm adheres to rigorous sustainable practices, avoiding chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides. They employ protective row cover fabric to shield crops from pests and cultivate a variety of heirloom vegetables, fruits, and greens. Their methods include starting seeds and slips in a large hoop house and experimenting with unique vegetable varieties. The farm also supports a 22-week CSA program, where members receive weekly shares of produce.

The Rest

Chilly Hollow Farm participates in several local farmers markets, including Berryville, Middleburg, Purcellville, and Front Royal. They have partnerships with local restaurants like Magnolia’s at the Mill, The Wine Kitchen, and Tuscarora Mill, which feature their produce on their menus. The farm values community support and encourages customers to demand organic and local food to help small farms thrive.
