About the Farm
Background
Rooted in a legacy of cattle ranchers from west Texas and homesteaders from western Oklahoma, the farm has always prioritized quality over quantity. The small operation prides itself on being able to identify each animal by sight, ensuring individualized care and management. From its inception, the farm has aimed to positively impact the community, livestock, and wildlife.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing to maintain soil health and fertility, eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers and minimizing chemical parasite treatments. Livestock, including sheep, lambs, goats, and kids, have access to outdoor pastures in Montana's Shields Valley for their entire lives, drinking from a pristine creek flowing from the Crazy Mountains. The animals are raised under high welfare standards, certified by Animal Welfare Approved and non-GMO by A Greener World. Natural weaning is practiced, allowing mothers and offspring to decide when they are ready. The farm's pasture-based system benefits the animals, the environment, and the people who depend on them for meat.
The Rest
The farm offers pasture-raised and grass-finished lambs, breeding stock sheep, and stock dog training. They are listed on the ASPCA®'s certified farms/products and emphasize humane slaughter practices. The farm's philosophy is deeply influenced by quotes from figures like Temple Grandin and Wendell Berry. Customers have praised the quality and tenderness of the lamb, appreciating the transparency and care in the farm's practices.
