About the Farm
Background
Robert and John Chase, brothers and full-time farmers, have been farming together since 1972. Located in Monroe County, near Rochester, in the town of Perinton, the farm spans eighty-five acres with additional rented land. Mary, Robert's wife, also works full-time at the farm, and their son Don has recently purchased farmland in Macedon for growing soybeans and wheat, contributing crops to the farm.
Practices
The farm employs a variety of sustainable practices recommended by Cornell University and other experts. They utilize minimum to no-till practices to increase soil organic matter, reduce erosion, and lower fuel consumption. Cover crops are planted after harvest to suppress weeds, capture nutrients, and enhance soil health. Crop rotation is used to manage insect and disease pressure. Detailed records of inputs are maintained, and soil and leaf analyses are conducted to apply nutrients as needed. Crops are scouted regularly, and chemical interventions are used only when necessary, following specialist recommendations.
The Rest
Chase Farms offers U-Pick blueberries, raspberries, and peas, with specific hours for picking. The farm market opens daily with in-season produce, including freshly dug garlic. Additionally, a Shortcake and Sundae bar operates daily from 10 am to 8 pm. For updated information, visitors can call the berry hotline.
