About the Farm
Background
Texas Longhorn cattle, known for their resilience and natural genetics, have been part of the American landscape since the 1500s, brought by Spanish conquistadors. The farm has been raising and selling Texas Longhorn meat since 1996, with a high rate of customer satisfaction. The founder's father initially fed Angus/Hereford cross-breds with corn in 1965, but the farm transitioned to grass-fed Longhorns for their efficiency and lean meat.
Practices
The farm raises Texas Longhorn cattle on a diet of grass, browse, and locally baled hay from chemical-free fields. They avoid the use of extra hormones and antibiotics, relying on the natural health and genetics of the Longhorns, which rarely get sick. The cattle are processed at government-inspected facilities, cold-dry aged, cut, vacuum-packed, and fast frozen for freshness. The farm emphasizes the natural leanness of Longhorn beef, which has minimal back fat and does not require fat trimming like other breeds.
The Rest
The farm is located near Newark, OH, and offers a variety of Longhorn meat products including burgers, brats, hotdogs, filet medallions, summer sausage, liver, heart, and oxtail. They also sell Longhorn quarters, halves, and whole beeves, and offer delivery to many Central Ohio areas. The farm pays all processing costs and transports their own cattle to USDA or Ohio Department of Agriculture inspected processors. Additionally, they sell Texas Longhorn skulls and cattle. The nutritional benefits of Longhorn meat include lower fat, cholesterol, and calories compared to other meats.
