About the Farm
Background
Founded in 1986, Buttercup Farms began with the modest intention of providing housing, purposeful activity, and mutual care. Over the years, it has expanded its mission across four continents, offering simple living spaces, education in useful knowledge and skills, economic development, and community building. The farm has fostered fellowship and opened new opportunities for many, thanks to the efforts of volunteers from around the world.
Practices
The garden employs intensive planting techniques on its one-acre plot and exclusively uses natural fertilizers and pest control methods. This approach not only ensures the health of the soil and crops but also serves as a model for environmentally sound food production and water usage.
The Rest
The garden is part of a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people help themselves. It provides a supportive and inclusive work environment where individuals can overcome feelings of isolation and gain a sense of well-being and confidence. Additionally, the garden offers a CSA (community supported agriculture) program and serves as an educational resource for children and adults to learn about nature, horticulture, and the origins of their food.
