About the Farm

Background

Burningheart Farm has a mission to preserve the art of sustainable farming, producing non-toxic, nutritionally correct food for optimal health. Known for its pasture-raised lamb, heritage turkey, chicken, and eggs, the farm prides itself on using no antibiotics, growth hormones, chemical anthelmintics, pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. The small size of the farm allows for limited quantity but exceptional quality, and it follows a 'small and local' model by retailing directly to customers.

Practices

The soil is the foundation of Burningheart Farm, with permanent pastures managed to protect long-term soil health, increase mineralization, and decrease erosion. The pastures contain a variety of plants and biological diversity, including legumes like white clover that fix nitrogen naturally. Livestock are treated humanely, with plenty of space to reduce stress and illness. The farm participates in the USDA voluntary scrapie flock certification program. Poultry are fed certified organic whole grains and OMRI listed organic kelp, which builds soil fertility and provides essential vitamins and minerals. The farm's methods promote public health, maintain strong topsoil, and produce nutritious, safe, and delicious food.

The Rest

Burningheart Farm offers lamb throughout the year, with orders recommended early as they usually sell out in the spring. Heritage turkey orders for Thanksgiving should be made by March 31. Chicken is available year-round with advance orders recommended, and a 10% discount is available on orders of 10 or more. Eggs are available in the spring, summer, and fall. The farm stand also offers honey, organic herbs, firewood, wool, and more seasonally. Most products are available for purchase on their website, with shipping available for some items.
