About the Farm
Background
Located in the quiet corner of Connecticut, this 285-year-old farmstead has a rich history of cattle and sheep grazing. Over the years, the farmhouse has been meticulously maintained and updated by its owners, preserving its original paneled walls and floorboards. The farm has transitioned to raising Peruvian Huacaya Alpacas, achieving notable success in show rings and various alpaca-related activities.
Practices
The farm employs sustainable growing and farming practices, focusing on the interconnectedness of the ecosystem. Their beeyard not only produces honey but also plays a crucial role in pollinating fruit trees, vegetables, hardwoods, and a nearby vineyard. The farm also grows five varieties of hardneck garlic, which are sold as seed stock and supplied to local farmers markets and farm-to-table eateries. Alpacas are raised, bred, and their luxurious fleece is harvested to create yarn, roving, and accessories.
The Rest
The farm offers a wide range of services, including fiber training, workshops, medical seminars, hands-on labs, marketing, breeding, and husbandry. They also consign alpacas from other farms, provide boarding, and offer creative services to alpaca breeders. Visitors are always welcome to share in the alpaca experience, and the farm prides itself on creating friendships and maintaining high standards in business practices. Additionally, the farm is part of the CT Fibershed, growing, processing, and hand-dyeing their own yarn and roving.
