About the Farm
Background
Originally a full-time farm and nursery, the business shifted its focus from live plants and a vegetable CSA to primarily honeybees in 2012. The name 'Buffalo Lick' is derived from the road the farm is on, which has historical significance dating back to the 1770s when naturalist William Bartram used 'The Great Buffalo Lick' as a landmark during his survey expedition. The area was known for its mineral and clay deposits that attracted buffalo. A monument was erected in the 1930s to commemorate the location, further cementing the farm's name.
Practices
The farm emphasizes transparency and customer relationships by using the internet to show how their products are grown. They maintain three beeyards in Walton County and one in Greene County, focusing on expanding their beekeeping operations.
The Rest
In addition to producing local honey and honeybee products, the farm offers honeybee removal services throughout Northeast Georgia. Visitors are encouraged to explore their website and social media for updates and more information.
