About the Farm
Background
Brook's Bend is a 90-acre commons in Montague, MA, where several enterprises share the land. The farm is currently owned by Al Miller and Suzanne Webber, who plan to transition ownership to a model involving multiple stakeholders. Little Song Farm, managed by Ryan Richards, focuses on pasture-raised lamb. Brook's Bend Woolens, led by Suzanne Webber, produces rugs, blankets, and yarns in collaboration with local mills and weavers. Additionally, mentoring programs for youth and adults are offered by Neill Bovaird of Wolf Tree Programs, and herbal medicine gardens are cultivated by Chris Marano of Clearpath Herbals.
Practices
The farm employs pasture-based methods for raising Shetland sheep, Heritage breed laying hens, and turkeys. Vegetables and cut flowers are grown on about an acre of land. The interconnected approach to farming emphasizes the integration of various agricultural enterprises, fostering a holistic and sustainable use of the land.
The Rest
Visitors can view and purchase yarns and rugs by appointment. Little Song Farm's Ryan Richards has been featured in a CISA interview. The farm stand at 119 Old Sunderland Road offers lamb for sale.
