About the Farm

Background

Shannon Brines began growing vegetables and fruits as a child in Dexter and established the farm on family land in 2004, driven by a passion for slow food and sustainable agriculture. The farm started selling year-round at farmers markets and introduced the area's first fresh produce Winter CSA share program. In 2012, the operation expanded by purchasing a neighboring historical 80-acre farm in northern Webster Township.

Practices

The farm is certified USDA organic for its entire operation, ensuring that all produce and nursery stock are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The focus is on authentically grown, nutritious, and delicious produce, with a commitment to sustainable, year-round agriculture.

The Rest

Shannon Brines is an Applied Geographer and Lecturer at the University of Michigan, involved in various local food community organizations. The farm offers internship opportunities and periodic open houses for the public. Shannon was also a member of the US delegation to Terra Madre 2008, a world slow food meeting in Turin, Italy.
