About the Farm
Background
Situated on nearly 400 acres of rolling glacial till, the farm transitioned from row-cropping to hay fields and pastures, creating a diverse landscape of wetlands, hills, meadows, and woods. The farm has become a sanctuary for native flora and fauna, with a focus on enriching the habitat and sharing its bounty with nature.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing for sheep, allowing them to move from one small pasture to the next, while chickens roam the barnyard, feeding on grass and clover. The garden is maintained without herbicides, using mulch to control weeds. The emphasis is on rebuilding topsoil, planting trees, native grasses, and wildflowers, and providing habitat, cover, and food for wildlife.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy farm tours when staying at the Bluebird Trails Bed & Breakfast, located in the second old farmhouse on the property.
