About the Farm

Background

Originally from Long Island, NY, the family moved to northern New Hampshire, near the Vermont and Canadian borders, to start their homesteading adventure. They began with a gift of six laying hens, which expanded to over 250 hens of various heritage breeds. Their eggs have been featured at The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel. The farm also houses wool sheep, some of which were rescued from sales in New Jersey after being bottle-fed babies at a Long Island petting zoo.

Practices

The hens are pasture-ranged, consuming a grass-fed and all-natural diet. The sheep, no longer actively breeding, graze peacefully and are sheared once a year. Their wool is hand-sheared, hand-washed, hand-carded, and hand-spun on the farm. The farm promotes the eat-local, eat-healthy movement and participates in local farmers' markets.

The Rest

The farm is a member of the North Country Farm Fresh Co-op of Colebrook and the Small and Beginner Farmers of NH. They sell fresh eggs, hand-spun wool yarns, baked goods, and seasonal fruits and vegetables. They also received a USDA-NRCS grant for a Seasonal High Tunnel to grow four-season vegetables. The farm is currently in the process of relocating.
