About the Farm
Background
Founded by Anita Deeley in 2011, this beekeeping venture began with a single hive on a rooftop and has grown to maintain approximately 100 hives across Massachusetts. The business has garnered national recognition, winning multiple Good Food Awards for its honey and honeycomb, and has been featured in publications like American Bee Journal, Hobby Farms, and Grit Magazine.
Practices
The farm employs organic and sustainable beekeeping methods, managing hives in pesticide-free locations to ensure the health of the bees and the quality of their products. Each hive's honey is spun and bottled separately to preserve the unique flavors of different regions. The beeswax used in their candles and skin care products is sourced from their own hives, ensuring purity and quality. The farm also emphasizes the importance of bee conservation, rescuing and rehabilitating feral bees to protect local ecosystems and food supplies.
The Rest
In addition to honey and beeswax products, the farm offers educational programs for beekeepers and the public, sharing knowledge on beekeeping practices and bee health. They also provide hive management services for businesses and homeowners, and sell bees to those interested in starting their own hives. Their products can be purchased at their Salem store, online, or by phone.
