About the Farm
Background
Established in 1913 by university professors and engineers, the historic olive grove at the base of Butte County's Table Mountain began its journey as early as 1910. Drawing on the expertise of Old World specialists from Italy and Spain, the Berkeley Olive Association set up state-of-the-art orchards and industry practices, making a significant mark in the New World. Over the years, the estate has garnered numerous accolades, including Gold Medals and Best of Show awards, for its premium extra virgin olive oils.
Practices
The estate employs traditional dry-farming techniques and hand-harvesting methods to cultivate its Mission varietal olives. These practices, combined with the unique terroir and the age of the trees, result in olive oils that are rich in antioxidants and offer exceptional stability and flavor. The oils are bottled in dark glass to preserve their health benefits and deliciousness.
The Rest
Visitors can explore the estate through adopt-a-tree and adopt-an-acre programs, and can inquire about ancient recipe 100% olive oil soaps. The estate's oils have been recognized at prestigious events such as the Good Food Awards, where they have been honored multiple times. Arrange for a visit to experience the rich history and exceptional quality of the olive oils firsthand.
