About the Farm
Background
Goat Busters was started in 2008 as a response to the economic downturn and a demand for cleaner solutions to land management. Jace Goodling, who had been raising Kiko meat goats for over a decade, partnered with Scott Wilcox to turn a cull herd into a land-clearing business. The service has been employed by vineyards, private backyards, country clubs, and more. Jace Goodling, a central Virginia native and Washington and Lee University graduate, has built a reputation for quality and reliability since founding Goodling Enterprises, L.L.C. in 1996.
Practices
Bent Post Farm maintains a closed herd of Kiko goats and breeds American Blue, California, and New Zealand rabbits. The farm's land-clearing service, Goat Busters, uses goats to manage overgrown brush and invasive species without the negative impacts of chemical herbicides and heavy machinery. This method requires multiple applications but avoids soil toxicity and compaction.
The Rest
Goat Busters is known for its environmentally sensitive approach to land clearing, tackling vegetation like kudzu, honeysuckle, poison ivy, and privet hedges. The service emphasizes the long-term health of the land, avoiding the harmful side effects of traditional clearing methods.
