About the Farm
Background
Owned and operated by Milan and Stephanie Steiner and their family, this small farm is located in Creston, OH. They are known for raising Non-GMO fed pastured poultry broilers, turkeys, and 100% grass-fed beef. The farm has gained recognition for its Belted Galloway beef, which has been shown to have exceptionally low fat content and high quality, winning accolades such as the 2003 Sydney Royal Show 'Beef Taste Test.'
Practices
The farm raises day-old chicks and poults in a brooder for 2-3 weeks before moving them to floor-less 'chicken tractors' that are relocated daily to fresh pasture. This method allows the poultry to forage on grasses, legumes, and bugs while being supplemented with Non-GMO feed and clean water. The poultry are then processed and packaged at a USDA inspected facility. The farm also raises Belted Galloway cattle from birth to finish on the same acreage, ensuring they are 100% grass-fed. The cattle's diet and breed contribute to their low fat content and high-quality meat.
The Rest
Belted Galloway beef has been shown in a University of Guelph study to have a total fat content of about 2%, with only 1% saturated fat, making it comparable to chicken and fish in terms of fat content. The beef is known for being exceptionally tender, flavorful, and juicy.
