About the Farm
Background
Against the Grain Farm has grown from a humble beginning to a strong Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm in Northern Delaware. After five years in Middletown, the farm moved to Historic Penn Farm, managed by Delaware Greenways, in 2016 to continue growing great produce. The farm initially operated under the name Bayberry Farm but had to change its name due to a legal issue.
Practices
Against the Grain Farm does not use any petroleum-based insecticides or herbicides, relying instead on organic sprays when necessary. Plants are protected by beneficial bugs, row covers, and top-quality plants. The farm uses cover crops for erosion control and soil amendment, and employs crop rotation to encourage diversity and discourage disease.
The Rest
As with many CSA farms, Against the Grain Farm relies on the purchasing of CSA shares for its operation. Without shareholders, the farm would not be able to provide naturally grown produce to the region. Potential customers are encouraged to check out their Vegetable CSA and other CSA options.
