About the Farm
Background
The Bates Family Homestead began as a rekindled dream in 2019 when the family started building their house on land gifted by Cassie's grandmother. Initially starting with a small number of chickens and goats, the farm grew in response to the pandemic in 2020. Inspired by Joel Salatin and Polyface Farm, the family embraced pasture-raised poultry and rotational grazing. By 2022, they committed fully to farming, selling their products at local farmer's markets and focusing on connecting with the community.
Practices
The farm employs mobile range coops and chicken tractors to move chickens to fresh ground daily, allowing them to forage for bugs, clover, and grass. They prioritize sourcing within 50 miles, using Non-GMO grain and baby chicks. Their practices emphasize humane treatment of animals, ethical raising methods, and rotational grazing to enhance soil health and biodiversity.
The Rest
The farm offers free delivery within 15 miles and guarantees 100% satisfaction. They maintain a strong commitment to ethical and humane animal treatment, ensuring their products are something they would feed their own family. The Bates Family Homestead actively engages with their local community through farmer's markets and online updates.
