About the Farm
Background
Located about a mile east of the state capital building in Austin, the farm sits on land that has been used to grow food for over 100 years. It currently offers heirloom produce from September to June, and three times per year, Freedom Ranger Chicken. The farm's biggest annual project is raising Heritage Turkeys for Thanksgiving, including breeds such as Narragansett, Bourbon Red, Royal Palm, and Broad-breasted Bronze.
Practices
The farm employs a nature-based organic method, working the land by hand. Soil fertility is maintained through an organic rotation system that utilizes cover crops, poultry manure, and onsite composting. Pest management is achieved through a balance of trapping crops and poultry, eliminating the need for pesticides.
The Rest
Customers can stay updated via the farm's website and Twitter, with availability announced through an email list. Products can be picked up at the farm or delivered free of charge.
