About the Farm

Background

Located in scenic midcoast Maine, the farm is run by Brad, Caitlin, and their daughter Fiona Hunter. They raise a small herd of registered Alpine dairy goats and have become known for their fresh chevre, feta, blue, and aged cheeses.

Practices

The goats are fed locally grown hay and a commercial dairy mix. Composted manure from the barn enriches an organic garden where many of the herbs used in the cheese are cultivated. The goats roam freely on about three acres of second growth woods and are never confined to the barn. Artificial hormones are never used, and if antibiotics are necessary, the milk is withheld for four times the recommended withholding period.

The Rest

The farm is not open to the public, but customers can purchase cheeses at local stores and restaurants, via mail order, or at several farmers' markets including Bath, Belfast, Camden, Damariscotta, Orono, and Rockland.
