About the Farm
Background
The beekeeper's journey began at the age of 12 after earning the beekeeping merit from the Boy Scouts of America, quickly expanding to three bee hives. With 42 years of experience, he has held the position of treasurer for the Orange Blossom Beekeepers Association in Orlando, Florida, from 2007 to February 2016, and is currently working toward becoming a Master Beekeeper through the University of Florida program.
Practices
The beekeeper manages apiaries located in various places including Bio-Sphere in Winter Garden, Matthew's Hope in Winter Garden, Ocoee, St. Cloud, an organic orange grove in West Winter Garden, and Ferndale at Red Lion Nursery. The family-run business focuses on producing local, raw honey, and provides pollination services for vegetables and fruit trees in the area. Additionally, the beekeeper removes honey bees from buildings, trees, water meters, and electrical boxes, ensuring the safe relocation of the bees.
The Rest
The business sells honey at the Winter Garden Farmer's Market on Saturdays and at the Whole Foods Farmers Market on Sand Lake Road on Tuesdays. The beekeeper is installing a certified pouring facility to sell honey wholesale and retail. Educational training programs are conducted for various organizations, and the beekeeper mentors new beekeepers in the West Orange County area.
