About the Farm
Background
The last orange grove in Rialto, California, was originally planted by the current owner's grandfather in 1907. The current owner has rejuvenated the 10-acre grove and expanded it with over 400 new fruit trees, encompassing more than 200 varieties.
Practices
The farm employs a diverse planting strategy, cultivating 26 varieties of plums, 18 varieties of peaches, 11 varieties of plum crosses with other stone fruits, 6 varieties of apricots, 6 varieties of nectarines, 19 varieties of apples, 8 varieties of fruiting mulberries, 650 asparagus plants, and 20 cherry plants developed for mild-winter climates. This diversity supports a resilient ecosystem and provides a wide range of produce.
The Rest
Produce is sold at a fruit stand on the grove, to colleges and universities, and will be available at farmers markets. The farm offers free tours and welcomes interns interested in learning about diverse fruit and vegetable cultivation.
