About the Farm
Background
Over the past few years, the farm has been a host for the WWOOF organization, integrating volunteers into their labor-intensive no-till farming methods. The farm is also a 501c3 nonprofit organization that encourages personal and spiritual growth through communal living and a focus on the soul.
Practices
The farm employs minimal tractor use to avoid soil compaction and pollution, instead relying on permanent beds and the addition of organic materials like manure, compost, lime, rock phosphate, hay, and leaves as mulch. Pest control is managed through biological controls, kaolin clay, floating row covers, and manual removal. The farm is secluded, surrounded by forest-covered mountains, and irrigated by a spring-fed creek, which protects it from chemical drift and GMO pollen contamination.
The Rest
The farm offers a CSA program, attends local farmers markets, and serves as a spiritual retreat center. They provide spiritual counseling, meditation retreats, yoga classes, vegetarian cooking courses, and more. The farm has held periodic sweat lodges since 1987, following Lakota traditions.
