About the Farm
Background
Located in the Cholame Valley near Parkfield, California, the V6 Ranch has been family-owned and operated since 1961. Encompassing 20,000 acres, the ranch is known for its diverse and alluring landscape. Over the years, it has become a haven for guests seeking rejuvenation and an authentic ranch experience. The ranch raises 800-1000 stocker cattle annually, providing flexibility in herd size and allowing the land to rest when needed.
Practices
The V6 Ranch leverages the semi-arid climate of Parkfield to grow grasses high in nutrients, which, combined with irrigated pastures, produce healthy and tender beef. Unlike conventional feedlots where cattle are finished on corn, the V6 Ranch allows its cattle to live out their lives on green pastures, ensuring they remain healthy and happy. This method not only preserves the natural health benefits of the beef but also maintains the ecological balance of the ranch's diverse ecosystem.
The Rest
The V6 Ranch offers a variety of guest activities, including cattle drives, cowboy academies, and pack trips, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in ranch life. The ranch is home to a diverse ecosystem, featuring grasslands, chaparral, tree groves, lakes, and a wide array of wildlife, including black-tailed deer, wild boar, coyotes, and over 200 species of birds. Guests can also enjoy the unique Parkfield Lodge and the award-winning homestyle BBQ at the Parkfield Cafe.
