About the Farm
Background
Owned by Mark & Helen Angermayer, the farm is known for its dedication to producing the tastiest and most succulent fruit possible. Located in Stilwell, KS, and Belton, MO, the farm has grown to include over 650 peach trees, an acre of thornless U-pick blackberries, tart cherries, and apples. The farm sells its produce at roadside stands, from their home, and at the Spring Hill farmer's market.
Practices
The farm uses natural compost materials like leaves, grass, and wood chips to fertilize trees, rarely resorting to synthetic fertilizers. They run a 'dry' orchard, avoiding irrigation except in emergencies to ensure the fruit retains its natural sweetness. Peaches are picked at near peak ripeness and handled with extreme care to avoid bruising, never stacked and always placed one layer deep in boxes. Blackberries are picked cane-ripened and also handled gently. The farm prioritizes flavor, removing any variety that doesn't meet their high standards.
The Rest
The farm encourages customers to call or email ahead to have their orders ready for pickup. They also provide daily ripening information on their Facebook page to help customers avoid wasted trips. The family taste-tests new varieties to ensure only the best flavors are offered. The farm's unique approach to fruit production and handling sets it apart from larger commercial operations.
