About the Farm
Background
In 1990, the Arnosky family purchased their first 12 acres with a modest down payment and began the arduous task of clearing cedar-covered land. Starting with a tent and gradually building a greenhouse and cabin, they expanded their farm by acquiring an additional 18 acres and, later, 100 more acres. Known for their vibrant flower fields and community events, the farm has become a local staple, featuring a traditional German-style Hill Country Barn built in 2006 with the help of the community.
Practices
The farm employs environmentally sound farming practices, focusing on sustainable methods that enhance soil health. Organic compost serves as the primary fertilizer, fostering a living soil rich in beneficial microbes. This approach minimizes the need for chemical sprays and fertilizers. Natural habitats are maintained in fence rows and uncultivated areas to support beneficial insects and bird life, creating a balanced ecosystem that limits pest problems.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including touring flower fields, hiking, biking, and participating in events like the Basil Pesto festival and the Blanco Lavender festival. The farm market offers fresh-cut flowers, vegetables, herbs, and artisan cheeses. The self-serve Blue Barn market operates on an honor system, inviting guests to bring cash or checks. The farm is also recognized as the Marigold Capital of Texas and has been featured in Texas Highways Magazine.
