About the Farm

Background

The story began in 1999 when John Paul Houston purchased a 60-acre farm in Floyd County, Virginia, to raise his eight children. Initially producing meat for personal use, the farm grew into a local meat production, processing, and distribution business. Starting from a 250-square-foot timber frame farm store, the business expanded to supply local restaurants, universities, and eventually an online meat shop. By 2013, it evolved into a small network of family farms with national distribution.

Practices

The network focuses on grass-fed and pastured farming practices, offering grass-fed beef, pastured chicken, pork, turkey, and seasonal grass-fed lamb. Emphasizing whole animal utilization, they reduce waste and create exceptional value. Their approach includes organic, antibiotic-free, and clean label attributes, ensuring high-quality meat products.

The Rest

Tendergrass Farms offers free shipping for orders over $199 and a $19 flat rate for smaller orders to the lower 48 states. They serve manufacturers and brand owners with specialized chicken programs and cost-engineered protein ingredients. The company aims to overcome barriers between supply and demand, providing consistent quality at competitive prices.
