About the Farm
Background
Founded by Paul Profeta, his wife Joanne Malino, and General Manager John Place, the farm spans 370 acres on Route 202 South in Readington, New Jersey. It has become known for its commitment to raising cows, pigs, and chickens in a manner that aligns with both the founders' and customers' beliefs about animal welfare.
Practices
The farm emphasizes soil health by reducing tillage, supplementing with compost, and planting cover crops to work nutrients back into the soil. Animals live primarily on pastures, foraging and grazing for their food. Rotational grazing systems, organic management, and the absence of herbicides and pesticides contribute to a biologically active and fully mineralized soil. This approach ensures that healthy soil nourishes crops and pastures, which in turn nourish the animals and ultimately the people consuming the farm's products.
The Rest
The farm stand is open 7 days a week, year-round, offering a selection of produce, meat (beef, pork, and chicken), eggs, and dairy products. Grassfed Angus cattle receive no grain, while dairy cows and steers receive 4 pounds of grain per day and are not marketed as grassfed.
