About the Farm
Background
In the heart of Indian River County, known as the home of the 'World’s Finest Citrus', sits a piece of land that has been owned and tended by the Peterson family since 1913. Purchased in 2013 by Eric and Tiffany Barkwell, another local citrus family, the tradition of the finest in citrus continues. This historic citrus packing house is one of the oldest in the county. A visit to Peterson Groves is a step back in time, offering a beautiful gift shop full of gourmet dressings, dips, sauces, local honey, farm fresh eggs and produce, souvenirs, sweet delicious Florida taffy, Alligator Jerky, and more.
Practices
Petersons Groves operates as an agricultural farm and packing house, focusing on locally grown Indian River Citrus and other produce. The farm is home to dozens of beloved animal residents including baby chicks, roosters, chickens, peacocks, goats, and pigs. They offer daily harvested seasonal fruits and vegetables such as okra, heirloom tomatoes, artisan greens, strawberries, tangerines, corn, kale, collards, and free-range farm eggs. The farm emphasizes the freshness and quality of their produce, ensuring that all products are harvested and packed with care.
The Rest
The unique gift store features real alligator head souvenirs, juice and fruit samples, and an expansive offering of jams, jellies, salsas, and sauces all custom blended and bottled for Petersons Family Groves. Visitors can enjoy a 'Squirrel Treasure Hunt' amongst the trees and animals, receiving a prize at the end. The farm offers farm tours and welcomes visitors of all ages, seven days a week. They also provide gift fruit shipping, with a variety of citrus fruits available throughout the season, and a 'Fruit of the Month Club' to enjoy the flavors of the citrus growing season year-round.
