About the Farm
Background
Tim Sanford and Suzanne Long founded Luna Bleu Farm in 1989, initially farming on leased land in New Hampshire before settling in South Royalton, Vermont in 1993. Known for having one of the oldest running CSA programs in Vermont, the farm has been a staple at the Norwich Farmers Market for decades. Their daughter, Shona Sanford-Long, grew up on the farm and later established Flying Dog Farm, continuing the family tradition of organic farming.
Practices
Luna Bleu Farm adheres to certified organic practices, avoiding synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. The farm emphasizes soil management and ecosystem health to enhance plant nutrition and resilience. Livestock, including chickens, beef and dairy cows, pigs, and bees, play a crucial role in nutrient cycling and contribute to the farm's character. The farm operates year-round, supplying organic vegetables, chicken, and eggs to local customers.
The Rest
Luna Bleu Farm offers educational programs for school-aged children and apprenticeships for aspiring farmers. The farm hosts seasonal events, such as open houses and pizza gatherings, to engage the community. Shona Sanford-Long's Flying Dog Farm, which originated from Luna Bleu, specializes in certified organic grass-fed beef, pastured pork, and lamb, and is a founding member of the White River Land Collaborative.
