About the Farm
Background
Established in 2010, the farm has been cultivating just under two acres of land for over ten years. Known for producing tasty, nutritious vegetables without harmful chemicals or genetically modified seeds, the farm has built a reputation for its commitment to organic and sustainable farming methods. The farm's mission has always been to create a healthy ecosystem and provide outstanding organic vegetables to the community.
Practices
The farm follows regenerative and sustainable practices, adhering to most organic standard guidelines. They focus on building the soil and producing the best plants possible by using biological farming methods. Mechanical controls, such as row covers and encouraging beneficial insects, are used to manage pests instead of organic chemicals. All weeding, planting, and harvesting are done manually with efficient and ergonomic tools to minimize carbon output. The farm is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting local food systems to decrease fossil fuel consumption.
The Rest
The farm offers CSA and Market Share Memberships, providing eighteen weeks of fresh vegetables from June to October. They sell their produce at the Bank St. Market in downtown Kalamazoo every Saturday throughout the year and on Thursday evenings in the summer. The farm emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses and fostering strong community ties. Visitors are encouraged to see the growing practices firsthand and engage with the farm. The farm proudly grows 100% of the vegetables they sell.
