About the Farm
Background
Living Roots Farm is located on a historic 75-acre property near Patoka Lake/French Lick/Paoli, IN. The farm boasts three barns, a farmhouse, a community center, good fencing, good soil, forest land, and beautiful rolling pastures. Over the years, it has expanded to include three greenhouses, a Tiny House Village with six cabins, an earthship-inspired home, an 1800 ft. deer fence, a farm stand, an outdoor kitchen, a produce shed, a building workshop, a walk-in fridge, and an earthen grow room. The farm is known for producing about 100,000 lbs of produce, 25,000 lbs of meat, and 45,000 eggs annually.
Practices
Living Roots Farm adheres to regenerative farming practices, focusing on minimal outside inputs and chemical-free produce. Although they no longer certify organic, their commitment to chemical-free farming remains steadfast. The farm raises grass-fed beef and pastured pork, emphasizing the health of the soil and the well-being of the animals. The interconnectedness of their farming practices ensures a sustainable and productive ecosystem.
The Rest
Living Roots Farm offers a variety of opportunities for those interested in farming, including a CSA program for produce and meat, farm staff positions, apprenticeships, and work exchange programs. They sell their products at the Bloomington Tuesday and Saturday Farmers Markets, an online farmers market, a local coop, and a farm stop. The farm also runs an Organic Farm School, offering workshops and a farm apprenticeship program. Visitors are encouraged to call or email ahead for purchases.
