About the Farm
Background
Left Field Farm Greenhouse & Market Garden was started from scratch in 1991 on a plot of wooded land in the Berkshire Highlands. Since then, slowly and steadily, using mostly hand tools, they have worked to transform a small area of the woodlands into a highly productive farm. The farm has been certified organic since 1998 and is recognized as a Baystate Organic Certifiers Legacy Farm.
Practices
The farm employs organic agricultural and horticultural practices, focusing on raising healthy plants and vegetables in a manner that is respectful of their customers, workers, and the environment. They aim to reduce plastic use by testing various container products and currently use the Kord line of recycled paper products for their durability and decomposability. Their farming philosophy emphasizes mindful, organic practices that are sensitive to the local ecosystem and the creatures that share it.
The Rest
The greenhouses are open to the public daily from 9 to 6, April 15th to July 1st. They sell directly to landscapers, garden designers, farms, and local retail stores and garden centers. The market garden operates from June through October, growing a wide variety of hybrid and heirloom vegetables. They sell only within a 35-mile radius of the farm, prioritizing flavor over shipping durability. The farm aims to provide exceptional service and maintain full displays during the short spring season.
