About the Farm
Background
Located atop a 1200-foot high ridge in Clayton County, the farm has been cultivating organic vegetables since 2009. Adrian White, an experienced farmer and herbalist, co-owns and operates the farm with her husband William Lorentzen. Adrian's journey in organic farming began after traveling across various states and even to South America during a college internship. Over the years, the farm has become known for its diverse produce and herbal products, catering to restaurants and direct delivery customers.
Practices
The farm employs sustainable, regenerative, and environmentally responsible growing methods. These include healthy soil building, cover cropping, crop rotation, compost amending, and the use of all-natural fertilizers. Minimal chemical use is practiced, with only plant-based, non-harmful curative pesticides allowed under USDA organic certification, and only in dire instances. The farm's practices emphasize the interconnectedness of farming, ecology, and human health.
The Rest
The farm operates on Sustainable Iowa Land Trust (SILT) land and offers a buyer's club for early access to produce and products. Deliveries are made every Friday, with secure online purchases available through their Woocommerce store. Adrian White also formulates small-batch medicinal herbal products under the label Deer Nation Herbs, available for pick-up and direct delivery in the Driftless Iowa area. Her writing on sustainable agriculture and herbalism has been featured in numerous publications, and she has contributed to educational textbooks on organic farming.
