About the Farm

Background

Jericho Settlers' Farm was founded in 2002 on two of the earliest settled farmsteads in Jericho, Vermont: the Chapin Homestead settled in 1783 and the Brown Family Homestead circa 1800. The farm is managed by Mark and Christa, who made Jericho their home in 1999. Christa grew up on the farm, and the next generation now plays and occasionally works on the farm. The farm has grown to produce 30 acres of certified organic vegetables, flowers, and herbs, and it also manages 2 acres of crops in hoophouses and greenhouses year-round.

Practices

The farm employs certified organic farming methods for its vegetables and herbs, growing over 75 types including lettuce, spinach, basil, parsley, cilantro, kale, arugula, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onions, beets, squash, tomatoes, beans, broccoli, and eggplant. They also raise 100% grassfed and finished lamb and beef, as well as pasture-raised heritage breed pork and chicken. The animals live healthy lives on pasture, where they can express their natural behaviors and benefit from their family and herd relationships. The farm is committed to sustainable farming practices, including renewable energy use, soil fertility management, and water quality protection.

The Rest

Jericho Settlers' Farm offers CSA programs year-round, with pickup locations in Burlington, Richmond, Jericho, Williston, and Waterbury. They also have an extensive wholesale program supplying numerous restaurants, institutions, and groceries in Chittenden and Washington counties. The farmstand is open daily from 8am-6pm, offering a variety of vegetables, meats, and eggs. The farm is deeply involved in the community, participating in Farm to School programs, community workshops, Senior CSA shares, Vermont Farm Share fundraising, and weekly donations to the Vermont Food Bank and local food shelves.
