About the Farm
Background
Harmony Valley Farm, located in a spring-fed valley in the Driftless region of southwest Wisconsin, has been cultivating organic vegetables for over 40 years. Founded by Richard de Wilde, who has been growing organic produce since 1973, the farm has become well-known for its commitment to soil fertility and plant nutrition. Over the decades, it has expanded its reach, supplying over 1500 families through its CSA program and partnering with local grocery stores and food co-ops.
Practices
The farm employs a system of cover cropping and applications of compost and minerals to promote healthy, mineral-balanced soil, resulting in vegetables with exceptional flavor, color, and nutrition. Year-round habitats are maintained to support songbirds, bats, bees, and beneficial insects, which aid in natural pest control. Harmony Valley Farm goes beyond organic standards, emphasizing an integrated and healthy growing environment.
The Rest
Harmony Valley Farm offers a long delivery season for CSA shares, starting in May and extending into December, with distribution in areas including St. Paul & Minneapolis, Minnesota; the greater Madison area in Wisconsin; and locally around Viroqua, La Crosse, and Onalaska, Wisconsin. They also provide certified organic grass-fed beef and pastured pork meat shares. The farm maintains partnerships with retailers like Lunds & Byerlys in the Twin Cities area to deliver vegetable shares directly to stores. For more details, visit their website or social media pages.
