About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2003 by a small group of Amish farmers and businessmen, the cooperative was established to revitalize family farms and provide fresh, nutritious food. Throughout the 1900s, the majority of Amish families relied on farming, but by the turn of the century, less than 10 percent were full-time farmers due to economic pressures. The cooperative aims to preserve Amish tenets and teachings while fostering economic stability for its members.
Practices
The co-op employs organic growing methods developed over centuries, ensuring soil is abundant in minerals and enriched by cover crops, compost, and trace elements. Fields are shaped by horse-drawn plows, and weeds are cultivated with horse-drawn implements. Cows graze on lush green pastures, and chickens roam freely, laying eggs on clean dry bedding. Each farm undergoes multiple third-party inspections to uphold standards.
The Rest
The cooperative emphasizes sustainability, culture, and community, aiming to provide wholesome and nutritious food that is safe and tastes good. Their products are marked with a seal of authenticity, and they strive to improve not just the Amish community but the community at large.
