About the Farm
Background
The home 80 acres at Grassfields has been farmed by the same family since 1882. It transitioned into a sustainable dairy in the early 1900s and adopted intensive rotational grazing in 1992. By 1993, the farm began milking seasonally to align birth and grass cycles. In 2002, they started making and selling raw milk Gouda and other cheeses from their cows' milk. Since 2005, they have been selling herd shares, allowing families in West Michigan to enjoy fresh, Organic milk from cows they own on the farm.
Practices
The farm employs intensive rotational grazing, which involves moving livestock between pastures to optimize grass growth and soil health. They milk seasonally to synchronize with natural birth and grass cycles. All dairy products are made from the farm's own pastured cows' raw milk. The farm's dairy is Certified Organic by GOA, and their meat animals consume Certified Organic grasses. They also produce naturally pastured beef, pork, Certified Organic chicken and brown eggs, turkey, and lamb.
The Rest
Farm tours are available from May through October for any size group upon request. The farm also offers a variety of products through their online store. More information about herd shares can be found at www.migreenpastures.com.
