About the Farm
Background
The farm began as a retirement project to raise healthy food and has grown into a community-focused operation. The farm joined the Ohio Farmland Preservation program in December 2011, ensuring the land remains dedicated to agriculture. The farm collaborates with the Philander Chase Corp. of Kenyon College and is involved in various agricultural organizations, including the Ohio Ecological Food and Farming Association and the Ohio Farmers Union.
Practices
The farm employs grass farming techniques, focusing on raising animals on natural grass diets. Solar panels installed in 2011 provide renewable energy for the entire farm. The farm emphasizes better land stewardship and humane animal treatment, aligning with their philosophy of borrowing the land from future generations.
The Rest
The farm sells its products directly to consumers and at The Village Market in Gambier. They volunteer to preserve farmland and educate Kenyon College students about sustainable agriculture. The farm is also a member of the Weston Price Foundation and the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund.
