About the Farm

Background

Kathy Coleman and Bob Howe purchased the historic farm in Dresden, established in 1763, in 2007. Named for its founder Edmund Bridge, a housewright and High Sheriff of Lincoln County, the farm has a rich history of family and agriculture. The original Bridge family raised nine children on the farm, which now includes a main house, barns, a guest house, and various agricultural structures. The farm store opened on July 25, 2010, during Open Farm Day.

Practices

The farm employs MOFGA-certified organic practices for its vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, and hay. Heritage sheep breeds such as CVM Romeldale and Romney-Merino-Columbia crosses, along with a Border Leicester ram, are raised on the farm. LaMancha milking goats, grass-fed broilers, turkeys, laying hens, pasture- and organically-fed lamb and pork are also part of the farm's diverse agricultural practices. The farm is a member of COOPP, an agricultural cooperative with the only certified organic, state-inspected processing facility in Maine.

The Rest

The farm features an 18th-century period garden developed by Kathy and other Master Gardeners. Three miniature donkeys assist with predator control. The farm participates in Open Farm Day and the Maine Fiber Arts Tour. Apprentices play a significant role in the farm's operations, with recent additions including Mike Johnson, Erin Anderson, and their daughter Amara, as well as Derik Provencher and Abigail Kellogg. The farm was selected for the 2010 MOFGA Farmer To Farmer Conference tour. Products such as eggs, fiber, broilers, lamb, pork, artisan bread, and bagels are sold at the farm store, along with pasture-raised beef from nearby Eastern River Cattle Co.
