About the Farm
Background
Since 1985, this farm has been cultivating fruits and vegetables using organic methods. They have been a staple at the Saturday Urbana Farmer's Market since 1988 and started their own CSA program in 2001, offering local residents fresh produce with convenient pickups in Champaign.
Practices
The farm employs organic farming techniques, focusing on enriching the soil and avoiding synthetic chemicals. They grow a diverse array of fruits including strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, black currants, blackberries, blueberries, apples, and pears, along with over 30 types of vegetables. The farm also utilizes cover crops to improve soil health, although recent challenges with weed control have highlighted the complexities of maintaining organic practices.
The Rest
The farm's CSA program runs from late May to early November, offering a variety of fresh produce to its members. Despite challenges with volunteer help, the farm continues to thrive with the support of dedicated customers. They maintain an active presence on Instagram, managed by the youngest son from California, showcasing week-by-week photos of their CSA shares and other farm activities. The farm encourages potential customers to sign up early and support their operations.
