About the Farm
Background
Originally part of the Hawk Farm purchased in 1819 for $3,420, the property was acquired in 2004 and restored over the next two years. The farm, named after the blue moon that occurred during the month of acquisition, spans 17 acres and includes gardens, pastures, an orchard, hay fields, woodlands, fresh water springs, and outbuildings. The farm has been lovingly restored to its natural beauty and is known for its family-oriented approach.
Practices
The farm is committed to sustainable agriculture and humanely raised animal products. Heritage breed chickens, turkeys, and Dexter Cattle are raised on pasture, ensuring the animals have ample space and natural diets. The farm also produces farm fresh pasture-raised eggs and seasonal produce. Additionally, they craft luxurious natural shea butter soap and 'fat soap' made from fresh rendered lard on the farm.
The Rest
In the spring, the farm offers 'Purple Asparagus,' and in the summer, they provide gourmet hardneck garlic. They participate in the Frenchtown Community Farmers Market from June through September, selling their products as seasonally available. The farm also features a spectacular replica of the original barn, which serves as a venue for events. Visitors can purchase farm fresh eggs, garlic powder, and soap directly from the farm.
