OCTOBER OPEN HOUSE: Tree Dedication and Community Remembrance
of Rudy Mancke

Sunday, October 20, 2024

October's Open House is devoted to a community remembrance of Rudy Mancke at the Arboretum, following a private tree dedication with his family.

We invite you all to come share your stories and take time to reflect together on Rudy's impact on our lives as USC Naturalist in Residence, co-host of South Carolina ETV's long-running NatureScene and SC Public Radio’s NatureNotes, founder of South Carolina Association of Naturalists, and so much more.

Gates open at 1:00 pm. The community remembrance will begin at 1:30 in the Outdoor Classroom.

Light refreshments will be served.

Note:

Please consider parking on Wilmot Dr. near the gate, east of Kilbourne Rd.  There is ample space to park along the road. Please pardon hurricane debris that may remain.

Trails are natural and hilly.

Pets are not permitted.

---

Visit 10 biomes of South Carolina, botanic garden, and pollinator display gardens along a 1/3 mile trail.

Special stops are at the boardwalk overlooking a bald cypress swamp, longleaf pines atop a bluff of fossilized sand dunes, the botanic garden horseshoe, grove of Atlantic white cypress in the central wetland, and allee of ancient tulip trees in the ravine. Pause at the waterfall or other scenic stops and take in the gifts of nature, here in the middle of town.

Pets are not permitted in this wildlife sanctuary.

Note that pathways are natural and pass through varied terrain. Restroom facilities are not available.

Always free. No tickets required.

Also open Wednesdays and Saturdays 9-12 and Thursdays 3 - dusk (winter), 4 - dusk (after time change)

Note: RootSeller is not involved with this event. If you have questions or comments about the event, please contact W. Gordon Belser Arboretum. If we are displaying incorrect information here, please contact us.
