ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIVE PLANTS MATERIALS PROGRAM --
Putting the right seed, in the right place, and the right time!
In this talk Maggie Gaddis, Executive Director of the Colorado Native Plant Society (CoNPS), will tell us about the Rocky Mountain Native Plant Materials Program. This is a program of the USDA United States Forest Service Region 2, assisted by CoNPS and the Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP). We conduct native seed collections for use in ecological restoration of our public lands. We collect only native seed on USFS lands in the region 2 five state area, which includes Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota and Kansas. Our seed collection efforts occur from now through October and always include group camping opportunities. Come explore territory new to you with the support of CoNPS and make a real difference for our forests and grasslands.
Along the way, Maggie will take us on a photo tour of all the native species we collect.
Dr. Maggie Gaddis volunteered for CoNPS before becoming the first ever Executive Director of this fine organization founded in 1976. Maggie is also a member of the Geography and Environmental Studies department at UCCS. Her primary research focus is native plant revegetation. Maggie always works with citizen scientists. She founded the RMFI Citizen Science program in 2016.
She lives in the Old North End on her microfarm with her husband, three children, five chickens, dog Bodhi, cat Olive, and thousands of native plants! In her spare time, she recreates in all the ways including skiing the Peak, hiking, boating, backpacking, and biking.
New day? New adventure!
