Healthy forests are vital for a healthy world. At Hungry World Farm, enrichment planting is being used to increase populations of ecologically beneficial oak species and strengthen biodiversity while halting transition to a climax sugar maple forest, and sheep are being rotationally grazed on forested hillsides to help control aggressive bush honeysuckle in a way that supports health and quality of life for the sheep, strengthens forest stand improvement efforts, and protects soil resources. This workshop will provide basic knowledge of forest conservation, agroforestry, and enrichment planting. Activities will include creating forest gaps, tree planting, and setting up paddocks within the forest. Participants will also learn about tree seed collection within the forest, seed storage and planting/nursery setup. Whether you steward forests or simply would like to understand forests in a new way, come learn with us!

Meet your instructor:
Fionah Kansiime is an intern at Hungry World Farm through a one-year international volunteer exchange program. Fionah holds a bachelor's degree in forestry from Makerere University, Uganda. She has diverse experience with forestry initiatives and is particularly interested in agroforestry and food security.
