About the Event

Repot and take home a beginner friendly, hardy bonsai in the classic cascade style shape.

Learn basic bonsai techniques to start transforming plants into bonsai. Learn why it is important to have a good soil mix, how to look at and prune roots, and how to choose the right angles when repotting. Take this knowledge home and apply it to other plants as well.

This class is for beginners to intermediate.

TOTAL SEATS: 5

'Jasper' the Japanese Garden Juniper, Juniperus spp.

I’m Jasper the Juniper and native to Japan. I'm a dwarfed slow-growing Juniper variety with spiny-pointed blue-green to gray-green needles. Junipers have the distinction of being the most popular common bonsai for its bushy compact look and natural droop. I do best in a sunny location with afternoon protection in summer. Water once every 5-7 days, or whenever my pot feels very light. I stay green all year, so you can enjoy my color even on the coldest days.

Remember, I am an outdoor plant. In winter, I'll need a protected, cool spot where I can go dormant and feel rested come springtime. I do fine in temps down to 15F. Read more winterizing care tips online.

Symbolism: Juniper is primarily utilized for protective ceremonies and welcoming rituals that signify new beginnings.

Materials Provided: One handmade bonsai planter in small gray, one bonsai tree, soil, decorative rocks, necessary tools for repotting. Other materials on site available for purchase.
