About the Event

Join us for an exciting Wind Farm Tour & Off-Road Drive with PSE - let's explore and have some fun!

Discover how wind and solar power work at the Renewable Energy Center, nestled high on a ridge in Kittitas County. This exciting event offers a behind-the-scenes look at renewable energy production and stunning 360-degree views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount Hood, and the Columbia River Basin.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Up-close look: Explore the facility's 149 wind turbines, the solar arrays, a wind turbine blade, generator & gearbox, and even get a glimpse inside the base of an active wind turbine!
  • Guided tour: PSE’s knowledgeable guides will lead a 60-90 minute walking tour through the facility.
  • Scenic drive: After the tour, you can either head back to Seattle, or embark on an off-road excursion around the picturesque surroundings, culminating in Ellensburg, WA.
  • Return to Seattle: This event is perfect for a day trip and if you’re ready to head home, recharge in Ellensburg and conclude your adventure.

What to bring:

  • Closed-toed shoes (mandatory for the tour)
  • Layers of clothing (temperatures can be cooler on the ridge)
  • Water bottle and snacks (optional)
  • Camera (optional)

Important Notes:

  • Preparation: Charge your vehicle near Ellensburg BEFORE heading to the wind farm. Expect potentially long wait times at charging stations due to weekend traffic and event attendance. The facility is approximately 30 minutes from Ellensburg, with the tour starting sharply at 12:00 pm. Late arrivals may miss the tour but can still join the off-road journey starting at the visitor's center.
  • Safety: All guests are required to sign a liability form from ECRC and PSE. Minors must have a form signed by a parent or guardian. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory for the tour.
  • Accessibility: The tour includes a half-mile walk on gravel trails. Guests with mobility concerns can request vehicle access to the turbine base.
  • Weather Considerations: Dress appropriately for the weather conditions. The area is known for its average wind speeds of 17 mph and cooler temperatures on the ridge. Tours are subject to cancellation or changes due to inclement weather or unsafe conditions. If the tour is cancelled, we will still meet as a group to explore the area off-road. David will send out an email if this is the case.
