Del Monte Shopping Center's Certified Farmers Market, MBCFM
About the Market
Background
Founded in 1976, the Monterey Bay Certified Farmers Markets are the oldest and largest farmers markets on the Central Coast, featuring four market locations in Aptos, Monterey, and Carmel. Each market has its own unique style that reflects its community, and two of the markets operate year-round.
Practices
As a 'certified' organization, the farmers are certified with the state and sell only products they grow themselves, ensuring authenticity and quality. The markets emphasize local and organic produce, fresh seafood, and artisan goods, fostering a direct connection between growers and consumers.
The Rest
With over 80 growers and vendors, the markets offer a wide array of products including farm fresh produce, eggs, fresh seafood, organic meat, local honey, freshly baked pastries and breads, flowers, potted plants, seedlings, orchids, and award-winning pottery. The markets also support local communities by donating up to three spaces per month to local non-profits. The newest addition, the Del Monte Shopping Center's Certified Farmers Market, opened on June 28, 2009, and features over 25 farmers and vendors offering a variety of locally grown produce and specialty items.
