About the Farm
Background
Originally the 19th-century country home of Dr. William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb, the property was restored in 1987 and now serves as an inn and restaurant. Shelburne Farms has been welcoming guests with warmth and informal elegance for over a century. Today, it is a membership-supported nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental education and sustainable rural land use.
Practices
Shelburne Farms practices regenerative agriculture, integrating educational programs with sustainable farming methods. The farm serves as a living classroom, demonstrating environmentally, economically, and culturally sustainable land use. Their approach connects learners to the working landscape, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable food systems.
The Rest
Visitors can explore walking trails, a children's farmyard, and enjoy property tours and special events. The inn offers 24 individually decorated bedrooms and two cottages, while the restaurant provides contemporary regional cuisine. The farm also hosts transformative educational programs for all ages, aiming to inspire a conservation ethic and a sustainable future.
